displays, and PDA, etc. However, a regular transmissive
LCD has poor
readability in outdoor environments. To provide a suitable
solution, Advanced
Link Photonics, Inc. devoted years of R&D efforts in developing
convenient, affordable, and efficient solutions for outdoor LCD
applications. ALP’s
TRIOLCD®
technology is a patented LCD enhancement
technology, which is developed based on our knowledge in optics in
addition to the learning and understanding of the optical properties of a
transmissive LCD. The overall
optical performances of a TRIOLCD® are properly summarized in its name - Transmissive
and reflective illuminations

LCD, which implies that
we put our effort to optimize the LCD passively.
The enhancement is designed to equip a LCD with sufficient reflective
function without compromising its original transmissive
functions and features. With the imposed reflective function, the modified
LCD can reflect the ambient light passing the LCD cell and utilize the
reflected light beams as its illumination. The stronger the ambient light
is, the brighter the LCD will appear, Figs. 1 and 2. A TRIOLCD®
also
comes with improved optical characteristics, such as brightness, contrast
ratio, viewing angle and color saturation for both indoor and outdoor
viewing, Figs 3 and 4. The superb optical quality of a
TRIOLCD® in an outdoor
environment is achieved without extra power consumption and excessive heat
generation with no mechanical alteration necessary, Fig. 5. Its unique transflectivity under direct sunlight has won over
many customers who ate power and heat conscious.
